Show Brotherly Love By Fixing Your Sleep Problems

Missing out on just 1-2 hours of sleep can drastically increase the chances of getting in a car accident.

A new report released by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety finds that drivers who only sleep for 5-6 hours in a 24-hour period are twice as a likely to crash, compared to drivers who get 7 or more hours of sleep. Twice as likely to crash! We don’t like those odds, and we want to help people do something about it.

Sleep disorders, even ones that aren’t especially severe, can easily rob you of two hours of sleep each night. Many with sleep apnea and other disorders may be in bed for 7-8 hours, but with constant sleep disturbances, the sleep might be equivalent to 5-6 hours.

Others have much worse sleep disorders, and get even less sleep. The AAA study found that people who get only 4-5 hours of sleep in a night are 4 times more likely to crash. That’s not far off from the odds a drunk driver faces!

Statistics show that about a fifth of fatal accidents in the US involve a drowsy driver.
